The Presidential Debate

I have to say that this presidential debate is the determining factor of who is going to win the election. It began with Shruti asking the questions again. The first question was about the economy. Kyle Norton went first and stated that he wanted to balance the budget, continue medicaid but stop medicare, pull out of Iraq and Afghanistan. Next Bright stated that wants to raise the age for social security and pass the budget stating. He also discussed marijuana stating, " We can't force states to make marijuana legal!" Next was foreign policy. To be surprised their policies were almost exactly the same. Both stated that the U.S. should be in Libya only if US lives are at risk. Kyle stated that the UN is vital to world peace. Next the topic was about immigration. Kyle started by saying that his plan will be a two fold plan. He wants to loosen restriction and help people that are already here stating that he supports the Dream Act. Next was Bright, and again they both agreed with each other. He stated that he supports the Dream Act. The next topic is taxes. Andrew Bright said that there should be tax cuts for all Americans and he wants to support small businesses. Also corporate taxes must come down. Again Kyle Norton agreed with Mr.Bright. He states that he wanted to decrease taxes for all Americans and create more jobs. Next Shruti asked how the two candidates were different then their party predecessors. Andrew Bright stated that he was not Bush and that he was Andrew. Next Kyle said that he was "a different type of Democrat". He said that he was fiscally conservative and will provide actual change."
Overall the debate was very sad. When I asked the candidates if they want to regulate or deregulate the banks, they both simultaneously stated Deregulation! That is when Mr. Hix stated what all of us were thinking, "Are we voting for the same guy?" It was true, they were exact copies of each other. I don't believe there were differences between them. This definitely changed my vote to undecided because I didn't agree with either of them. I guess we have to see who wins.

The Vice Presidential Debate

The Vice Presidential debate was very exciting today. With Shruti asking the questions, the vice presidential candidates were asked about issues that were important to them. The first question asked was "What will you do to recover the economy?" Leegun was the first to answer stating that he will cut unnecessary programs and give tax breaks to all Americans. Next was Manisha Banga, she replied that she will reform Medicare and Medicaid, increase the retirement age, allow people to choose their own health care, increase taxes on luxury goods, give no tax breaks, and finally remove tax loopholes. Her response was very elaborate and gave the audience and in depth view of her policies. The next question was about education in America. Manisha stated that Norton would repeal No Child Left Behind and make education more about learning the material than beating a test. She said the Norton would create a voucher system which students could use to go to private schools if their public school was bad. Next Leegun stated that he wanted to create a strict AKS unlike Manisha. He went on to attack Manisha's policies by stating that without guidelines it would be difficult to maintain schools. Next Shruti asked about social security. Leegun stated that he will cut Medicare because the elderly rely on the government too much. Manisha stated that didn't want to stop Medicare but reform it. The next topic was foreign policy. Manisha stated that by 2015 all troops from Iraq and Afghanistan will be out. Leegun stated that he wants to increase military spending but also decrease foreign affairs. The next topic was same sex marriage. Leegun stated that originally he was opposed to same sex marriage but now he supports it because that is what the American people want. Next was Manisha, she stated that she wants to repeal "Don't Ask Don't Tell" and stated that every American has rights. Overall the debate went well. I have to say that Manisha had won the debate. Her responses were more elaborate. Next is the Presidential debate!

The Democratic National Convention

The Democratic National Convention was very lively, from the backdrop that Kyle Norton created to the riveting speeches. The Democratic National convention started off with Kat Lee giving her endorsement of Manisha Banga for the Vice Presidential nomination for Kyle Norton's Campaign. She started off by stating, "There is a revolution every four years." Ms.Lee gave a great speech speaking well of Manisha and of Kyle Norton. She closed her speech by stating that Manisha's passion matches Kyle's and that everyone should "Join Manisha Banga" and the Norton Campaign.

Next was Manisha Banga, the VP of Kyle Norton. When she got up for her speech all she had to say was good things about Kyle Norton. She proudly stated, " Throw your support of me into Kyle Norton's campaign." She went on to say that Kyle is the best choice and that she and Kyle, "will bring America to a new position." She also said, "We will work together".

After Manisha finished, Patrick Wilson came up to nominate Kyle Norton. This by far was most charismatic speech. After doing several impersonation of different people Mr.Wilson quoted Kennedy. When the crowd heard that everyone roared with laughter and cheers. He stated what Kyle Norton has done and what he plans to do for the country  He ended the speech with stating that, "Kyle Norton is what America deserves."

Next up was what the audience was waiting for, Kyle Norton. He opened up with stating, "I accept your nomination." He said that he accepts the nomination with humility. Norton discussed his plans to change this country and what he wants to do. He gave shout out to his campaign team such as Hammad and Patrick. Also most of all he thanked the voters for helping him get this far stating, "Thank you voters!" He ended the speech by stating, "I will win!" . The Democratic National Convention was very thrilling and much more exciting than the Republican National Convention.

The Republican National Convention

The Republican National Convention began with Grant Hix's opening speech. the audience was shocked to find out that he had decided to support a Republican when he was a staunch democrat. He opened up by saying, " I am here to talk about our future." He discussed the economic policies and the goals that Mr.Bright has for this country. In his speech he admited that he is working with a Republican but states that he wants to cross party lines to form a bipartisan effort.

Next was the Vice Presidential Candidate Leegun Kim. All had was good things to say about Mr. Bright stating, " He is here for the revival of this country." He later went to say that Andrew Bright was a hero, " here has always been a hero."He discussed the economic programs that the Bright will pursue such as cutting programs and discussed other economic policies. He ended his speech by saying that "It is time that we take change." Overall the speech was dull and not enthusiastic.

Last up was Andrew Bright himself. He opened up his speech by thanking those that helped him get this far. He thanked Peter and Sourish for what they have done and he also thanked the voters for their support. He said that this campaign has been a bipartisan effort. He discussed his economic goals and his goal to "pass and budget". Overall his speech was concise. He talked about his plans but not enthusiastically.

And the Winner Is.....

Kyle Norton the winner of the Dem. Primaries
Andrew Bright the winner of the Rep. Primaries

This weeks primaries were very exciting. At the end of the day, Mr.Brunswick decided to go ahead and vote and the candidates were watching in anticipation as each voter placed his or her slip into the red bowl. Joann Yang voluteered to count the results and as each name was called she would tally it on the board. It was as if  the votes were placed in a certain way to leave the public on the edge of their seats. For every "Kyle" there was a "Manisha" for the Democratic Party. After it looked as if the race would be between both of them, Grant Hix pulled some votes also. At the end it was all down to one vote, which went to Kyle making the race a tie. The results were Hix 3 , Manisha 8, Kyle 8.Surprised, the public had to vote for the Democratic nominee again, this time it being between Banga and Norton. Although it looked as if it would be a tie, Norton managed to edge out Banga by a couple of votes. The results were Manisha 8, Kyle 11.
For the Republican nomination, the race was just as tight. At first it looked as if Leegun would win the nomination, but Bright began to catch up with him. At the end as one "Leegun" was recorded one "Andrew" would also. The results came to be that Andrew Bright beat Leegun by one vote. The results were Bright 6 and Leegun 5.
That means that this years presidential race will be between Democrat Kyle Norton and Republican Andrew Bright. This will be an interesting race, and will probably be a close one. But will there be a third party candidate running this year?

Editorial: Who is the Right Choice?

I am sad to say that I believe that this year there are no strong candidates that appeal to me. Let me start with the Republicans. First there is Leegun Kim, a very nice person but also very lost. During the town hall meeting he was confused and consistently stuttered. When the elections first began I interviewed him and I can say that was by far the worst interview I had ever heard. When asked about homosexuals, Mr.Kim cut me off stating that they don't even deserve rights. Is that who we want representing this country? A person who believes that an American citizen shouldn't even have rights? I doubt that Mr. Kim will even get far in this election but still it surprises me what kind of people are running. Next is Andrew Bright. I have to admit that he is a much stronger candidate that Leegun but I still don't understand his policies. I feel like he is just repeating the typical Republican stance on issues without even really knowing what they are. All Mr.Bright kept on repeating was "Deregulation! Deregulation!" . Now if he was so adamant about this type of policies then why can't you explain why it hasn't worked in the past?
Next is the Democrats. Now, Kyle Norton is a very strong candidate, but to be honest I don't believe that he is a democrat. In regards to his economic policies he seems to mimic Mr.Bright's policies of deregulation. Although his social issues lean towards the liberals, but I still don't believe that he is a Democrat. Then comes Manisha Banga. I can say she is one of the most liberal candidates running right now.   Discussing social issues consistently, she shows the true colors of the Democratic party on social issues. now when it comes to the economy, I think that Ms.Banga is confused. Although she wants more regulation of programs, she also wants deregulation at the same time. I don't think that Manisha knows what she is talking about when it comes to discussing her economic policies. Finally there is Mr. Grant Hix. Although the least likely to win, I think that Mr.Hix had really great points. His stance on the economy and social issues really struck a chord with me, but he isn't as charismatic as the other candidates are and this will cost him the nomination. Overall in this election there is not one candidate that I could say will be the best for this country. All the candidates have major flaws that will not be good for this country.

The Candidates' Speeches

The speeches at today's meeting allowed the candidates to open up about who they are and what they stand for. As the event began, Manisha Banga was the first to volunteer. Placing her speech upon the podium, she looked up and began to tell the public who her parents were and how she grew up. She discussed the determination that she had, just like her father to make it. At the end of the speech Manisha repeatedly stated , "I will", emphasizing her strong beliefs that she is the right choice for the candidacy. Next came Kyle Norton. Smiling he walked to the podium and thanks Manisha for the wonderful speech she gave and complemented her on her campaign thus far. Stating, " I know I am the best candidate for the job", Mr.Norton made a convincing point about what he would do to fix this country and its economy. He discussed social issues such as immigration and same sex marriage and what his stance was. Overall Kyle Norton's speech was strong. He highlighted his plans as president and summed up his goals well. Last of the Democrats was Mr. Grant Hix. He opened up his speech discussing the founding fathers. Stating that they built this country and that strives to increase what they built. His speech were one of the shorter ones out of the Democrats, but was straight to the point. He briefly but clearly stated his economic plans and his policy on international affairs. "Everyone has a right to be heard", he proudly stated at the end of his speech.
Next were the Republicans. First up was Leegun Kim. Similar to Manisha's speech, Mr.Kim discussed his upbringing. Stating that he is" a product of America" and that it pains him "to see America at its current state." After discussing how patriotic he is, Leegun went on to discuss the economic and social issues that the US faces. He didn't clearly state his economic plan but he state at the end, "Hopefully I will do that." Last was Andrew Bright. Again Bright opened up with his upbringing. “I was born in the backwoods in South Carolina.” Very briefly discussed his economic policies and international issues, ending the speech with “We will not falter.”

Poll 1:
Do you believe it is okay to murder? 3 answered yes, 20 answered no
Do you believe you have the right to make your own choices? 22 yes, 1 no

Poll Time: The First Poll

The first poll was taken on September 24, 2012. For the first question, "Is bullying/belittling/hating homosexuals morally right?", 23 people chose "Yes." The reason why the first poll is based on homosexuality is because according to the survey and demographics in Brunswick's 3A nation, civil rights for homosexual people is one of the main issues between the Democrats and Republicans. All the people said, "Yes" to the first one; however among the people who took the polls, there are Republicans (who supposedly oppose civil right for homosexual people). For the second question, "Is including religious beliefs with morals wrong?", 5 people chose "yes" and 18 people chose "no". The first question is biased towards Democrats and the second question is biased towards Republicans.
