The Presidential Debate

I have to say that this presidential debate is the determining factor of who is going to win the election. It began with Shruti asking the questions again. The first question was about the economy. Kyle Norton went first and stated that he wanted to balance the budget, continue medicaid but stop medicare, pull out of Iraq and Afghanistan. Next Bright stated that wants to raise the age for social security and pass the budget stating. He also discussed marijuana stating, " We can't force states to make marijuana legal!" Next was foreign policy. To be surprised their policies were almost exactly the same. Both stated that the U.S. should be in Libya only if US lives are at risk. Kyle stated that the UN is vital to world peace. Next the topic was about immigration. Kyle started by saying that his plan will be a two fold plan. He wants to loosen restriction and help people that are already here stating that he supports the Dream Act. Next was Bright, and again they both agreed with each other. He stated that he supports the Dream Act. The next topic is taxes. Andrew Bright said that there should be tax cuts for all Americans and he wants to support small businesses. Also corporate taxes must come down. Again Kyle Norton agreed with Mr.Bright. He states that he wanted to decrease taxes for all Americans and create more jobs. Next Shruti asked how the two candidates were different then their party predecessors. Andrew Bright stated that he was not Bush and that he was Andrew. Next Kyle said that he was "a different type of Democrat". He said that he was fiscally conservative and will provide actual change."
Overall the debate was very sad. When I asked the candidates if they want to regulate or deregulate the banks, they both simultaneously stated Deregulation! That is when Mr. Hix stated what all of us were thinking, "Are we voting for the same guy?" It was true, they were exact copies of each other. I don't believe there were differences between them. This definitely changed my vote to undecided because I didn't agree with either of them. I guess we have to see who wins.

The Vice Presidential Debate

The Vice Presidential debate was very exciting today. With Shruti asking the questions, the vice presidential candidates were asked about issues that were important to them. The first question asked was "What will you do to recover the economy?" Leegun was the first to answer stating that he will cut unnecessary programs and give tax breaks to all Americans. Next was Manisha Banga, she replied that she will reform Medicare and Medicaid, increase the retirement age, allow people to choose their own health care, increase taxes on luxury goods, give no tax breaks, and finally remove tax loopholes. Her response was very elaborate and gave the audience and in depth view of her policies. The next question was about education in America. Manisha stated that Norton would repeal No Child Left Behind and make education more about learning the material than beating a test. She said the Norton would create a voucher system which students could use to go to private schools if their public school was bad. Next Leegun stated that he wanted to create a strict AKS unlike Manisha. He went on to attack Manisha's policies by stating that without guidelines it would be difficult to maintain schools. Next Shruti asked about social security. Leegun stated that he will cut Medicare because the elderly rely on the government too much. Manisha stated that didn't want to stop Medicare but reform it. The next topic was foreign policy. Manisha stated that by 2015 all troops from Iraq and Afghanistan will be out. Leegun stated that he wants to increase military spending but also decrease foreign affairs. The next topic was same sex marriage. Leegun stated that originally he was opposed to same sex marriage but now he supports it because that is what the American people want. Next was Manisha, she stated that she wants to repeal "Don't Ask Don't Tell" and stated that every American has rights. Overall the debate went well. I have to say that Manisha had won the debate. Her responses were more elaborate. Next is the Presidential debate!
